Heck even some of Lincoln’s closest friends who wrote memoirs about him posthumously couldn’t say for certain what he thought.

Quick googling reveals he converted to Catholicism, but it’s unclear whether he just did it for his wife or actually believed any of it. So like most of these guys what he actually believed is somewhat unclear.

Comment on Why I, as an ex-Christian, am reluctant to be friends with evangelicals. by Eolande Eliva http://www.skeptimusprime.net/2015/02/12/why-i-as-an-ex-christian-am-reluctant-to-be-friends-with-evangelicals/#comment-220 Mon, 09 Mar 2015 03:58:00 +0000 http://www.skeptimusprime.net/?p=507#comment-220 That’s one aspect of deconverting that I really appreciated. Finally being able to have a friendship without the ulterior motive of evangelism.

Comment on Children don’t owe their parents a relationship by Dylan Walker (Skeptimus Prime) http://www.skeptimusprime.net/2015/01/22/children-dont-owe-their-parents-a-relationship/#comment-219 Sun, 08 Mar 2015 22:44:00 +0000 http://www.skeptimusprime.net/?p=495#comment-219 Yeah, often well meaning people, after hearing about something that happened, will say something like “yeah that was wrong of them, but instead of cutting them off completely why didn’t you set down with them and explain to them why what they did was wrong” as if that idea had never occurred to me.

I, and I suspect most people who have landed in that position, often spent years trying to have exactly those sorts of conversations only to have a mix of denial, victim blaming, projection, and just outright refusal to discuss the topic thrown back at them. Eventually you just realize that nothing you say is likely to change the relationship because they are unable or unwilling to recognize any fault on their side of things.

Comment on Children don’t owe their parents a relationship by Aram McLean http://www.skeptimusprime.net/2015/01/22/children-dont-owe-their-parents-a-relationship/#comment-218 Sun, 08 Mar 2015 22:06:00 +0000 http://www.skeptimusprime.net/?p=495#comment-218 Yeah, I hear what you’re saying here. It’s very hard to explain to people why I’ve cut off contact with my family. They just can’t understand it barring a major traumatic event, when really it just comes down to a plethora of things all adding together to create a space of wasted energy I simply cannot spend another moment of my one life in.
